Blog N°3: When psychology meet education
When a i was younger, like 15 or 16 years old, i had several critics to the teaching system in my school. I remember i hate the dynamics on class, the several structured protocols, and that all the test was sometimes so confusing and the multiple alternative test was so ambivalent. In spite of i liked the psychology by those years, i didn't know for sure what was the role of the psychologist that used to work on the school, indeed, i didn't even liked her. Things like that made the school very boring and nonsense sometimes to me, but after all, i fondly remember a few teachers that had a big impact on me, on the way a think, and how i see the world. After i finished the school, i was very sure that i wanted to study psychology, because at that time i wondered very often how the brain and the mind works, and how the personality, our experiences, or our way to communicate, has an influence on our behavior and the relations that we have with other people. But that kind of interest were associate to the clinical psychology, that is the most common way to apply the psychology and to help other people by doing therapy.
However, by the pass of the years and the subjects, i start to get interested on the relation between psychology, epistemology, education and knowledge, so the discipline of the educational psychology became my favourite subject to study. I think that the care of the mental health is such an important thing to considerate during all of our life, but it has several impacts during the years of learning on school, It's important to teachers, to the parents, and of course to the children. Learning about the body language the socioemotional skills, the emotional intelligence, about how to express our feelings and needs, are just a few things that the psychology can help to introduce on schools, that had the same or even more relevance than subjects like math, or science.
These are just a few things that i can mention that links the psychology and the education world, but there are so many interesting and important themes, that makes me feel so excited about still learning and can work and help people that are part of the educational communities.
